Constraints are used to reflect real project scenarios like your Document submission date, Awarding of Contract…etc. Primavera’s scheduled date might not be the one which is in reality, so that’s where when assigning a constraint comes in to the picture.

Project constraint

This is assigned to place an overall deadline for your project. Your project scheduled date might say 20th Sep 2011 which your actual deadline might be on 1st Aug 2011

So to add a Project Must Finish by Date, you go to Projects view and select the Dates tab on Project details and enter the Must Finish By date

Activity Constraint

To assign a constraint to an activity, you can go to the Activity Window and select the Status tab in the Activity details.

Types of Constraints;

1) Start on

2) Finish On

3) Start on or After

4) Start on or Before

5) Finish on or After

6) Finish on or Before

7) As Late as possible

Mandatory Start and Finish.

Notes:

1) Always add a Notebook topic once a contraint is added.

2) You can add two constraints per activity

3) Always reschedule your project after adding a constraint to calculate the new dates.
